EMBANKMENT SCHEME.

FOR SOUTH LONDON. At the next meeting of the London Countv Council the improvements comUiitteo will recommend that the new Charing Cross bridge scheme be generally approved, says a London paper.

The scheme includes the construction icf a now road and foot bridge in place of -the present railway bridge and the transference of Charing Cross Station.to the south side of the river. The estimated cost is about £11.000.000.

It is stated in authoritative quarters that there is little doubt that the Council will approve the lecommendation. ,

A prominent member of the L.C.C. told a reporter: “AVlien the County Hall is completed and a magnificent new station with approaches to the new bridge is built it may reasonably bo anticipated that the land lying between. will be developed in a manner worthy of London. It- would ultimately mean that the embankment in front of St. Thomas’ Hospital and the County Hall would reach aterloo Bridge. Later it will probably be extended further.
