‘AYliv be Optimistic Concerning our Country” was the subject on winch the Hon. J. A. Young (Minister ot Health) addressed the- Optimists Club at the. weekly luncheon at Wellington. Optimism, said Mr. Young, was essential in every department of life. It was the spirit of optimism, combined with the qualities ot self-re-liance which actuated the pioneers who founded this country over 100 years ago. His definition of a pessimist was one who found an obstacle in every opportunity. An optimist, on the other hand, was one who found an opportunitv in every obstacle. (Applause.) The difficulties of life were made to get over, or get round. They could all be surmounted. Looking at such a healthy gathering with such high ideals and with such enthusiasm, he knew that the future of the country was in safe hands. He urged the members to look upon life as an opportunity for service in evensphere. Self-examination was necessary in every individual, every government, and every nation. Only by cultivating those factors which make tor progress could success be assured. At the conclusion of his very inspiring address. Mr. Young was accorded a hoartv vote of thrfhks.
