THE LEAGUE DEBACLE.
COMMENT ON SECOND TEST. ENGLISH MANAGER ANNOYED. QUERIES PRESS REPORT. (By Telegraph. —Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 24. “Of all the contemptible newspaper reports of any match during mv long association with the game, 1 have seen nothing more so than the reference to stretcher-bearers being continuously on the field during the second Test match at Dunedin,” declared Mr E. Osborne, manager of the English Rugby League team last night. Mr Osborne stated that the report of which he complained showed such a falsified view that he could only imagine it to be the comment of a writer who had either had a very bad night or else was suffering from a distorted imagination.
The stretcher was used only once to carry off Delgrosso, the New Zealand inside back.
f The remark complained’ of was sent through the Press Association from Dunedin and appeared in all the New Zealand papers. Similar criticism appeared in both the Dunedin . papers. It is significant that the captain of the New Zealand team wired to a friend in Auckland laconically thus; “We lost the fight.”—“Lock,”] ENGLISH TEST TEAM. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.)
