OUTBREAK AT HOKITIKA. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) HOKITIKA, March 2C. A fire at three o'clock this morning, in the centre of Revell Street, gutted Stephens Bros, tobacconist and hairdressing saloon. A billiard-room at the rear was damaged by water. The contents of the saloon and shop are a total loss. The adjoining premises were not damaged. The insurances are: Billiard tables, £150; fittings, saloon, £150; stock, £SOO. FA Mll A"' S XAKB 0 W ESCA PE. (By Telegraph.—Press Association). PAHIATUA, March 27. Fire at one o'clock this morning gutted an eight-roomed house, owned by Mrs. W. Eager..of Wellington, and occupied By W-. A. Tanp, a hides and skin representative. The lire had a big hold "hen the family., which includes five young girls, escaped in their night attire. The insurance on the house is unavailable, but the contents carried a cover of £2OO in the New Zealand Insurance Company. The residence was an old one. The insurance of the building is £325 in the State Office. Besides the family a boarder named A. O'Neill was in the house at the time of the outbread. In a short time'the house was a raging furnace. During the evening there had been a fire in the dining-room, and it is presumed that n spark from this caused the outbreak. DISASTROUS FIRE AT CAMBRIDGE (By Telegraph.—Press Association). CAMBRIDGE. March 27. About 3.30 o'clock this morning a block of old .wooden buildings in Duke Street, owned by Broad and Broad. was partly destroyed by fire. Shop premises occupied by James Kidd, saddler, and the rear living rooms occupied by Mrs. Radford were completely destroyed. By splendid efforts of the Brigade a nortlon of the buildings, occupied by Broad and Broad, grocers and ironmongers, was saved, though the stock was slightly damaged by water. insurances are:—Buildings, £'74o; Broad's stock. £4OO. both in the Sun office; Mrs. Radford's, household goods £35. in the Xorthern Company; Kidd's stock, which was totally destroyed, was valued at £IBO->and was not insured. BLAZE AT LEVIN. 'Hy Telegraph—Press Association., LSVIX. March 27. Fire at half-past twelve last night destroyed a five-roomed house in Shannon, owned by E. A. H. Osborne, and occupied by V. Buckman and family. The ocupants had retired at Tnflf-past eleven .when everything appeared to be all right. An hour later Mr. Buckman was awakened by a smell of smoke and hastened to the hack room where his young hoy slept. He found that the flames were bursting through the ceiling and that the boy Mas still asleep. He had just time to pick the lad up 'with a few clothes and hurry out with him. In the meantime his wife and daughter escaped with what clothes they- could gather up in their flight. The building was insured, but particulars are not available. The furniture was insured for £l5O.
