ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
OLD MAN'S DEATH,. (Bv Telegraph.—Press Association.) TAUMARUNUI, March 28. One of the oldest residents of Taumarunui in th e person of Theodore Meredith passed away at 10.30 this morning, unler distressing circumstances pointing to suicide. A neighbour heard the report of a gun, and rushed into the old man's* room and found him bleeding from wounds in the head. A revolver was lying alongside the body. The deceased, who was 85, had been bedridden for the last six years, and recently had been' suffering severely from the prevailing, complaint known as summer sickness. The deceased leaves a widow and a grown-up family. SERVICE CAR OVERTURNS. PUKEKOHE, March 28 A service car belonging to Mr J. Woods, of Ngatea,.while proceeding to Auckland this merning, ocerturned on an embankment at Pokeno Valley when attempting to avoid another service car which had been stopped to pick up a parcel which had been dropped. The four passengers were not injured, but the driver, Dudley Thompson, was seriously injured. He was taken to Tuakau' and received medical attention, later being removed to Auckland.
