A CONSTABLE FINED.
A DRINK AFTER HOURS
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) HAMILTON, March 23. Two constables, Arnold Sydney Wade and Arthur Cyril Shilton, were charged at the Court this morning with being on licensed premises after hours. It was shown that the com stables met Mr. Northuoft.. a wellknown Auckland solicitor, Jsi the main street of Hamilton, -«boufc six o dock. Wade had private l.usiness to discuss with Mr Northcrnft. win, invited both into his nrivate sitting room at his hotel to talk it over. This was five minutes after closing time. Both com stables were in plain clothes and when invited by Air. Norlhcroft to have a drink, *hrep bo?r> uere ordered and paid for by Mr. Noi'thci oft. Seen by another constable to enter the hotel a memo was s-.rot to them.by their superior officer in which the constables admitted being the premises and having had a dmik . The Magistrate. Mr. F. W. Platts. said in the case of Wade he had desired to discuss business with Mr. Korthcroft; which was borne out by Mr Northoroft, and His Worship accepted the explanation. The case, ao-ainst Wade was dismissed. With regard to Shilton he entered merely foP the purpose of having a drink and this was in contravention of the ■Vet. Shilton was convicted and fined £2."
