BOWLING.
THAMES TOURNAMENT OPENS. IN PERFECT WEATHER. PRESIDENT WELCOMES PLAYERS. The annual open tournament in connection with the Thames Bowling Club opened this morning under most favourable conditions. . The weather, which has been squally the last few days, improved last evening, and the first round of the tournament started this morning in bright sunshine, with just a slight westerly breeze now and again, which made the conditions for bowling most pleasant. The president of the Thames Club, Mr C. Palmer, formally opened the tournament, extending a hearty welcome to the visitors, and expressed the pleasure of all players at the presence of Mr J. W. Hardley, the late president bf the Dominion Bowling \3Soeiation. The president' concluded his remarks by wishing all the players in the tournament an enjoyable time during the fixture.

The closest game played this morning was between Cameron (Karaka) and Hosking (West End). Even score was reached on the 10th. head, and three heads from the end Cameron was 19 to Hosking's 13. The next two heads fell to Hosking, with a 2 and a sirgle, leaving three to tie or four to win. Hosking, with, his first bowl, picked the jack up and ran through to the ditch with it, putting him 4 up. Cameron got wide with his first, and both players were just to strong with their second, leaving Hosking the winner by one up.
