'(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Jan. 22.
“The soles of these boots consist of -a thin layer of leather, then cardboard, which, as soon as it gets wet, will fall to pieces. There is nothing to prevent his making such a shoddy pair of hoots so long as he stamps them ‘leather and cardboard.’ ” So said the inspector of awards (Mr Bailey) in Court yesterday of W. Corrona, boot in auuf a ctur-er Adelaide Road, who admitted having exposed unstamped footwear for sale. Corrona’s explanation was that he was not aware of the necessity to stamp goods. Mr. Bailey said defendant had been ■ conducting the business since the death of his father, and he was informed of the requix-ements of the Act on August 24 of last year. Mr. Page, S.M., imposed the maximum penalty of £lO. .
