TREE FALLS ON BUSHMAN. '

PAINFUL INJURIES. Morton Graham, aged 35. had seven ribs broken and his head cut open, during the week-end, whilst working in the Kauaeranga hush. In company with a mate, he had felled a big kauri, which had crashed through another giant tree, known to the bushman as a “mummock,” on its fall to the ground. Mr Graham was engaged in sawing the kauri, tvhen the top of the “mummock" fell across his back from a height of over 40 feet, causing painful injuries. His mates rendered first-aid, and carried him to the road, when he was removed to the Thames Hospital. Though) seriously hurt, he is making fair progress towards recovery.

Minor Injuries.

A similar accident, less serious in character, befel A. E. Lack, age’d 24, married, earlier in the week. Whilst jacking a heavy log, he fell beneath the branches of a falling tree, sustaining severe bruises to the hack, and les He .is under treatment at tho Thames Hospital.

Accident at Karaka.

Whilst breaking out stone in tho Karaka Creek on Friday last, a young man named Raymond Coster, single, employed by W. White & Son, felt backwards over a jutting ledge of rock, in the course of which he sustained injuries to his back and legs, fortunately not of a serious character.

AUCKLAND, Dec. 6.

The body found with a gun alongside in an old gumfield near Milford, on Friday, has been. identified as that of Charles Robert Hewett, aged 63, of Cambridge. His son gave evidence that he last saw his father alive on September 30th. He was then in financial difficulties over his farm, which he had abiindoned to the mortgagees. A fatality occurred in the Wanganui River this moiming, ■ when Thomas McKenna, a single man, aged 30, together with three draught horses, were drowned McKenna was ridingr in a dray driven and owned by W. W. Webster, and they were crossing the river to view a metal deposit on the opposite side preparatory to working it to-morrow. The horses got into deep water and were drowned. Webster anjl McKenna, struck out for the shore, 1 the former landing in an exhausted condition. McKenna suddenly disappeared when he was appearing to be swimming' strongly.
