A MAORI DIOCESE.
PROPOSED AT SYNOD. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Oct. 23. At the annual meeting of the Diocesan Synod, Archdeacon Hawkins moved that a resolution be forwarded -to the General Synod, expressing approval of the proposal to form a Maori ..diocese. He said, if formed, the new ..diocese would have 35 clergy to begin with. It was felt by some that this might cause a division of the unity now supposed to exist between the Maori and European. This unity, however, was more theoretical than real. -One advantage of the proposed diocese • was that it would give the Maoris -greater opportunity of self-expression --in their religion. The discussion was adjourned.
