eCASES against newspapers. .ALLEGED CONTEMPT OP COURT. ECHO OF MOUATT TRIAL. .(By Telegraph. —Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Oct. 23. The Appeal Court gave judgment to,day In the contempt of court cases 'against the Christchurch Sun and the Star '(October 16th.) The case against the latter was -unanimously dismissed on the ground that it mei’ely reported what actually took place in Court, and such a report was privileged. In the case of the Sun, the Court was .divided. Sir Robert Stout (Chief Justice), and Mr Justice Ostler holding the charge should be dismissed, while Judges Reed, Sim and Adams were of the opinion the paragraph contained .obvious comment that the witness was 'biased against the prisoner. As counsel had expressed his regret, the” case -would be met by payment of costs, 15 -guineas, and disbursements. No costs -were allowed in the Star’s case.
