KILLING A SPARROW.

ITo the Editor.) Sir,—With reference to the lying canard circulated by the New Zealand Labour Party, that the Government intends to reduce wages by<7/6 a week, nobody will believe it except those who are ready to believe anything “agin the Government.’* Mr. Coates declares it a falsehood, and that is quite sufficient for sensible people. Whatever J. G. Coates is, lie is not a liar. We would suggest to Mr. James, secretary of the Reform league, that in answering Mr. W. Nash, secretary, New Zealand Labour Party, he is spending far too much ammunition on killing a sparrow. Mr. Nash (like others of the Party) is far too much of a sophist to spend time in reasoning with. He absolutely does not care how he twists things in order to affirm what he wants to affirm. Anyone who analyses his leter can see that it does not prove what ho says it does. In addition, he has no scruple in stating what is plainly untrue. He says, for instance, “this prdjabsaliSiSss placed before .the House of Representatives by one of the Ministers in the Reform Government.” Now, that statement is "definitely. untrue. No such proposal was placed v befores, the House by anyone. Your readers have only to think why was it that members of his Party in the House djo. not bail up such a proposal, to realise that it was never presented. Thus the twisting of Mr. W. Nash is easily exposed. Sophistry and lying soon kills itself.—We are. etc.. N.Z. WELFARE LEAGUE.
