DOCTOR’S ERROR.
A PATIENT’S DEATH. An inquiry was held at Aberdeen into the death in a nursing home under an anaesthetic of William Adie. a grocer, of Maud, Aberdeenshire. Dr. Robson, the anaesthetist, said that soon after the operation began he had exhausted the contents of the small bottle of ether he was using. He put down the empty bottle and picked up another bottle thinking it contained ether. There was usually a bottle of chloroform on the table also. He did not specially examine the bottles before he began work. The jury found that the use by Dr. Robson of the bottle containing chloroform was inadvertent. There should be a uniform practice of differentiating between the colours and shapes of bottles containing anaesthetics.
