BITES THROUGH STEEL.

SAMSON OF THE IRON JAW. A modern Samson who bites through steel chains, twists iron rods into corkscrew shapes, and allows his chest to be used as an anvil-rest while iron is being hammered out on it has been discovered in Vienna. He is 34 years old, six feet three inches high, and weighs a little under 15 stone. His performances astounded a committee of physicians, engineers, smiths and presidents of athletic corporations. He severed with his teeth several iron and steel chains a fiftb of an inch thick, the links being broken by twisting. He bent into a circle iron rods half an inch square, using his mouth as a fulcrum. Afterwards he twisted the circle into a spiral. He drove with a single stroke of his fist a nail into a board an inch thick, first biting off the point of the nail. He bent over his head a rail four inches thick and two and a half inches broad. The correspondent says:—“The committee are satisfied that he accomplishes these tasks by means of extraordinary muscular training and exceptional muscular energy.
