LADIES’ COLUMN.

Mr. and Mrs. W. Morton returned to Thames last week after spending a holiday in the South. Miss Johnston, of Auckland, is at present the guest of Mrs. J. Ritchie. Mr. and Mrs. Crier, of Thames, live left on a short holiday. Miss K. Burns is staying with Mrs. Bayldon, Beach Road. Miss K. Hood, of Thames, is at present in Wanganui. The Board of Education has accepted the resignation of Miss Ida Johnston, first assistant at the Kopu School. Miss Johnston is to be married during the term holidays at Thames and then leaves for her future home at Waipiro Bay, near Gisborne. Mrs. Will Price has returned from a visit to her brother, Dr. Foote. at W mS°h! H. Marshal is staying with her sister at Hamilton for a few days. WEDDING. —BALL. A very pretty wedding took place j n St. George’s Church last week when Miss Rubv Ball, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. .Ball, Parawai, was married to Mr. Campbell, of the Union Bank. JWhangarei. The Rev A. J. Beck officiated. The bridge who entered the Church on the arm of her father, looked charming in a cream panne velvet frock beautifully worked in seed nearls. From the left side hung a long velvet train lined with shell oink georgette, and embroidered at L end in palest pink. The long tulle veil was held in , place by an uncommon pearl head-dress finished at the sides with tiny sprays of orange blossoms. The bride’s I bouquet was of Scotch heather tied with tulle. The chief bridesmaid, Miss Doris Ball wore an amber satin frock and carried a lovely mauve and lemon bouquet. Miss Campbell [second bridesmaid, wore pale blue satin and carried a lemon bouquet. Long tulle veils with Egyption headdresses of pearls were worn by both bridesmaids. Mr. Cameron of Whangarei, was best man. a After the ceremony the brides’ parents held a reception at Scott’s; Mrs. Ball wore a nigger brown silk frock and a fawn hat. Later in the day the happy couple left by motor for their honeymoon, the bride wearing a smart fawn frock and a brown hat relieved with old gold flowers.

FAREWELL SOCIAL. TO MRS DERRICK. A very successful function took place in St. George's Parish Hall on Friday afternoon when the Women s National Reserve gave a. farewell social to Mrs Derrick who is shortly leaving New Zealand'. The full attendance of members gave evidence of the esteem in which they held their, guest. The Hall was arranged as a drawing room and the tables were decorated with daffodils and other spring flowers. Afternoon tea was served in dainty china and the delicious home made cakes served on silver dishes, every member bringing their prettiest things to do honour to Mrs Derrick. During the afternoon Mesdames Hetherington and Johnson, Misses Melvin and Smith rendered pleasing musical items, wihch were much appreciated and heartily encored A fine Gloria Gramaphone was lent by Mrs Beck and selections given at intervals. A presentation was made to mrs Derrick by the president on behalf of the members consisting ol a greenstone pendant and, silver jam spoon with greenstone handle. In a brief speech the president said that Mrs Derrick had been her right hand in the activities of the Reserve ever since its inauguration and had always given willing efficient sendee in all efforts for the good of the community. They deeply regretted that they were losing such a valuable membei. Mrs Derrick thanked the members for their expressions of goodwill and \their handsome gifts which she would treasure as a memento of a happy time spent in Thames and of her old friends the members of the W. N. R- . . ’ The social terminated with the singing of the National Anthem and Auld Lang Syne. FANCY DRESS BALL AT ICOPU. The Kopu Social Committee is to be congratulated on the great success achieved at their second Plain and Fancy Dress Ball which was largely attended on Wednesday evening last. The weather as usual did not prevent many from coming. The Hall was nicely decorated and
