OBITUARY.

MR. JOHN DANBY. It is Avitk regret that we chronicle the death of Mr John Danby, a very well known and respected citizen of Thames. Mr Danby, Avho was born at Barnsley, Yorkshire, sailed for Australia in the ship Annie Wilson. He arrived in Thames in 1868. He had previously been at the alluvial gold fields of New South Wales. He founded the business so Avell-knoAvn in Pollen Street, and Avhile he did not have the time to devote himself to civic affairs, he was an excellent citizen, and took a keen interest in matters for the good of the town. His financial help was always forthcoming for' any necessitous thing. He Avill be much regretted by his family, of Avhom he leaves four sons and tAvo daughters. His wife predeceased him by nine years. The late Mr Danby was a great temperance supporter, and was a Past District Chief Ruler of the Independent Order of Recha'bites. He was also a member of the Masonic Fraternity, and formerly a Trustee of the Lodge of Light. At the time of his death he Avas a Life Honorary Member of that Lodge.
