HAMILTON RAM FAIR
The Farmers’ Co-op. Auctioneering Co.. Ltd., Hamilton, report that at Claudelands on Wednesday they held the annual ram fair, their entry bein': about 600. An adyanee in values was not unexpected, and results fully justified anticipations. There was not a dull moment from start firfishT'-and with the exception of six rams, the whole offerin': ~ r * n s cleared. Down rams were considerably short of requirements as were also Border Leicester, a breed that seems to be increasing in popularity amongst fat lamb breeders. The utility sheep (Romney) was well represented, and well received, some very "ood lots being submitted. The sale opened with the Down rams —57 of the popular Southdowns bein': submitted. Buyers soon responded to the auctioneer’s demand, and the first ram offered quickly ran to 15gns. First quality shearlings made between 12gns. and that figure; second quality, 9 to 11-Jgns: 2-shear rams, good quality, 10 to 12gns; aged rams, 5 to Signs. Even in the Lincoln class, which has suffered a period of great unpopularity. competition avus not altogether wanting, and with one or two executions the offering was cleared. From 2 to ( 2igns were the ruling prices. As usual the Romneys composed a large proportion of the offering, and more firmly than ever established their importance in that branch of the sheep industry, for which they are noted. Stud rams made lOgns to 13gns. A pen of shearling studs realised from 16 n ns to 22gns. The flock Romneys met Avith briskness till the sale concluded. The best realised Sens to llgns: second quality, 4gns to 7gns; aged and inferior. n to 3 1 ' i- n s; .
