DIVORCE CENTRE.
THE “RENO” OF ITALY. EASY MATTER IN FIUME. (A. and N.Z. Cable.) (Received 11 a.m.) ROME, Oct. 3. The free city of Fiume has become the centre of divorce for the whole of Italy, where divorce is not permitted.
There were 1500 divorces granted in Fiume last year. An applicant has merely to become a naturalised Fiume citizen and divorce is then possible in a week, the tariff varying with the wealth and position of the parties. Divorce fees now form a big part of the Fiume revenue, which has fallen off since the war owing to the Jugoslavs boycotting the port and using the Danube route whenever possible.
