THAMES RUGBY UNION-

MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE

The management committee of the Thames Rugby Union met last night. Present': Messrs. R. S. Darrow (chairman), J. H. Ensor, P. J. Hook, W. Wilton, C. Rockley, and W. S. Clark (hon. secretary). Leave of absence was granted to Messrs. J. Spraggon and S. McDonald.

The Pirates Club applied for the registration of A. Tatton as »■ member of the senior fifteen.

The president said that this was the second application. The player was resident at Wilson’s Bay, outside of the Union territory.

Members sai<s that the application was very late in the season. Mr. Wilton, who had made inquiries, stated that the. player’s actual place of residence was re ported to be Tapu.

Enquiries made by telephone showed that the player lived at Kereta, ahd the application was declined.

The joint secretaries of the Grenadiers advised that 1 the gate takings at the football match on September 16 amounted to £29 15s 3d gross, and £2B 17s 3d net. The sum of £l4 8s 7d had been paid to the Union’s credit.

“Accepted with thanks" remarked the president. ' The headmaster of the Central School forwarded the school shields. “Though our team has nut this year been successful, still wp have derived much pleasure and benefit from the competition. We wish to congratulate the winners on their success and all the opposing teams on the clean healthy spirit in which the game was played. Please convey to your union the thanks of this school for the provision of grounds and referees.”

It was reported that - arrangements were in hand for a match married v. single, as a curtainraiser next Saturday. Messrs. *). Stewart and H. Hayward had the matter in hand.

Referring to the \ report that football matches had led to damage being done to the High School ground, the president - said that he had inspected the ground and could see no damage. Two of the trees had died a natural death and there was nothing missing. The position of L. Smith was briefly discussed. The minutes showed that he had been allotted to the Soldiers’ team.

The president , reported that an enthusiastic supporter of the game had promised to donate photographs of the representative team that had played for the Peace Cup to the players. The men would assemble at 1. 15 p.m. on Saturday next. It was decided to hold the annual smoke concert on Saturday week.
