A LONG JOURNEY.
AMUNDSEN’S SHIP SAILS. (A. and N. Z. Cable.) SEATTLE, June 2. Captain R. Amundsen’s ship, the Maud, has sailed from Nome, Alaska, on the first stage of the sevenyear journey in the Arctic. She is carrying two airplanes and a large stock of building lumbei*. When the vessel is frozen in the ice the party will build a house for greater comfort and security. Captain Amundsen expects to study important scientific questions relating to the North. He joins the ship in Alaska. The Maud will be in wireless communication with Stavanger during the whole trip.
