PEARLS IN BED.
WOMAN’S VAIN ARTIFICE. BURGLARS TOO CLEVER. LONDON, February 1. Mrs Krieger, a resident of Hampstead, where lately there has been an epidemic of jewel robberies, relates a nerve-wracking experience, when burglars secured two pearl necklaces, worth £BOOO. Mrs. Krieger says that, owing to the prevalence of robberies, she wore the pearls to bed for saiety. She awoke and saw a man s shadowy form in the bedroom. The burglars threatened her with death if she gave an alarm, and demanded to know the whereabouts, of the jewels. The woman tried to smuggle the pearls under the bedclothes, but the man detected the move, and searched for them- The husband, who was tardily roused, awoke, and was. similarly threatened. The two burglars threatened to kill the man and wife unless they gave the robbers 15 minutes start. The thieves then left in a motor after locking the bedroom door.
