SCHOOL EXCURSION.

A HAPPY DAY. Encouraged by the success of lust year’s visit the School Committees from the Walton.-Puta.ruru district; held their annual picnic at Tararu to-day. Favoured with perfect weather the excursion left Putaruvu at 6.40 a.m., and at each station contingents were picked up. When the train roached Thames it consisted of 18 carriages, and thcro must have been between 700 and 800 on board. On arriving at Thames station the Mayor and Town-Clerk met the party, and at onco a start was made for Tararu. Tents had been erected just beyond the Waitangi dump, and in a very short time hundreds of children and adults were in she water. The committee in charge had sent down the tents, and the borough foreman had scon to the erection and the provision of suitable sanitary conveniences. Then across the road, by permission of Mrs. Challis. the visitors had the run of a perfect picnicking ground. There were shady trees, and a row of boilers provided ample hot water. 'Many peoplo came into town in the afternoon, but the majority were content, to spend a glorious day at the seaside.
