SPENT OUT OF DOORS.

SOME SHOWERY WEATHER. The Christmas holidays started properly on Monday morning, and Thames was deserted. It would have been interesting to know ’ the number of people who went down the Coast. From a comparatively early hour, vehicles of all descriptions, both public and private, carried picnic parties to one or other of the variand it was noticed that some of the motor-cars came from a long distance. Occasionally, a car with bedding, boxes and on so would pass, bound for some seaside cottage or camp. The day broke fine, but, later on, clouds came up from the north-west. The weather conditions generally could-be, described as a little close, but a<brfeeze from the sea improved matters considerably. The only two fixtures in town were the local bowling tournament and the annual meeting of the Thames High School Old Boys’ Association. On the bowling green a pairs tournament was the order of the day. In all, 22 pairs entered, and some interesting and enjoyable games resulted. During the morning a; few heat drops fell, and in the afternoon the lightest of passing showers, but the bowlers had a really good day. At the High School, after the business meeting, a tennis tournament was held, and some splendid play witnessed. In the evening the old boys and old girls held a dance in the school. \ Towards nightfall, a steady rain commenced to fall. Fortunately, it was very light, but, even so, it caught many picnickers unawares. Naturally, a move towards town followed, but the motor vehicles had ■to take the parties in in turn, and it was not until some time after dark that the last lot clambered aboard the motor lorry and set out for Thames.
