LIBEL CASE.
MR. BOTTOMLEY AGAIN. VICTORY BOND CLUB. (A. and N.Z. Cable.) \ LONDON, October 11. A sensational criminal libel suit has opened at the Bow Street Court. Horatio Bottomley, M.P.,. is prosecuting one, Reuben Bigland for selling a libellous pamphlet in the streets of London, which alleged that Bottomley had cqme into possession of nearly a million of money, through his Victory Bond ■Club.
Sir Ernest Wild, on Bottomley’s ■behalf, denied the statements in -the pamphlet, and alleged that Bigland for years had been attempting to extort money, culminating in his .entering Bottomley’s flat and asking for £60,000. According to Sir Ernest Wild, the public subscribed £450,000 to the Victory Bond Club, whereof £350,000 had been returned to the -public, after the Victory Bonds fell from 85 to 75. Of this, Mr. Bottomley found £35,000 out of his own -^peket.
