SATURDAY'S GASViES. FOUR VISITING TEAMS. On Saturday four hockey teams visited Thames. The ladies' team from Waihi tried conclusions with' the Huia club team, the Hamilton High School girls met the local High School team, and Morrinsville and Waihi representatives played local teams. The weather was perfect and the games created a lot of interest. HIGH SCHOOL MATCH. This match was played on the High School! ground prior to> the tournament. The visitors, accompanied by one of the teachers, Miss Harrison, were welcomed on arrival, and entertained at luncheon at the school. The tables had been artistically decorated with spring flowers, and the Hamilton girls were soon made to feel quite at home. After a brief rest the teams took the field. They were as follows : Hamilton. —N. Reeves, J. Masters, M,*Clilfe, E. Gane, D. Shepherd, E. Murray, M. McNiken, F. Peake, L. Worsley, V. Capper,- and H. Brough. Thames. —G. Delaney, F. Gordon, J. Franklin, R. Wayne, J. Brownlee v G. Hook, D. Percy, H. Shand, N. Royal, W. Renshaw and M. Briggs. From the bully-off it was apparent that the visitors were a wellcoached and scientific team. . They set up a hot attack, but met with 'a steady defence. In the first half the local players did well, although by half time E. Murray (2) and D. Shepherd had scored for the visitors. Shortly after resuming play N. Royal scored a fine goal for Thames, but then the superior combination of the visitors told its tale. They Avere very deadly'once they were within striking distance. E. Murray added three goals, and D. Shepherd one, and the game ended: Hamilton 7, Thames 1. Mr. A. Danby was the referee. After afternoon tea and some enjoyable sets of tennis the visitors were escorted to the railway station, and the teams exchanged cheers as the train, steamed out. THAMES V. MORRINSVILLE. Hockey was played at Dodd's Padclock on Saturday under ideal weather conditions, and attracted a 'large gathering of spectators. There were two senior matches, both of which resulted in a win for Thames. The first match played between Thames (Pirates) and Morrinsville, was not very fast, but some good play was witnessed, and although the visiting team played one.man short, they put up an admirable defence. "" ■ From the bully off, a succession of miss-hits gave Thames an opportunity and Brokenshire cleared to the wing, but there was no one there, and Scott got the ball away. From a pass Harley gained possession, and essayed a short run, but he was well tackled by_ Clarke, and the ball was returned. " A . short dash by* Brokenshire took the game Avell into the Morrinsville circle, where Humphries "was much in evidence and temporarily stopped the ball. An award to the visitors gave the latter an opportunity, and play then worked into Pirates' goal mouth . where Hastie secured a first-class goal. Thames now attacked strongly, and the play was centered near the Morrinsville goal, Fisher putting in some good work. From a-melee Brokenshire secured, and with a fine shot equalised the scores. Mid-field play then followed, until the visitors took a turn at attacking, and a melee resulted in the Pirates''goal mouth. From a shot, Martin made a poor attempt to save, and the-ball went'-in-' to the net. From the bully off Pirates pressed and a stiff shot was well stopped who cleared. The ball Was immediately returned by Murray, who found the net with a good shot. The play now got very fast, and the Thames forwards made several good attempts. From a pass Brokenshire'secured, and a heat pass to Murray saw the ball taken - well downfield. On nearing the goal Murray took a shot, and registered the third goal for Pirates. On resuming', Morrinsville made several good attempts and a fine run downfield by Stewart was well executed. A shot by the latter was neatly placed and equalised the scores. Pirates attacked strongly, and some, fine rushes were well stopped by the Morrinsville backs. Brokenshire, who was playing a fine game, then gained the ball and with a clever shot completely heat Briggs. The game ended with the scores: Pirates 4, Morrinsville 3. Mr. Griffin was referee. ROVERS V. WAIHI.

This match proved very fast and spectacular, and resulted, in an easy victory for Rovers, who scored very quickly. The ground was in, good condition and excellent hockey was witnessed. The teams were: — • Waihi. —Dunstan, Wotherspoon,

From the bully Menzies / secured the ball and carried "the play into the Waihi goal mouth, and registered the first goal within a few moments of the commencement of the game. Burt then gained the ball and essayed a short run, but he was well stopped by Cartwright, who cleared. melee resulted in the Waihi goalmouth, but MeCartney got the ball away. It was immediately returned, -and a combined rush downfield took'the ball well into the Waihi territory. Judd secured the ball and placed it neatly in the net. Waihi now took a turn at attacking, and a stiff shot was neatly saved by Briggs, who cleared to Charlton, and the latter sent the ball well upfield, where Menzies secured and again placed the ball in the net.

Thames again attacked, and. a strong dash doAvnfield by their forward line saw the leather in a dangerous position. Newth temporarily cleared, but.. Danby secured and passed to the forwards, where Menzies received. A short run by the latter, and the ball found" the net. From the bully Waihi rallied. A corner shot was well placed, and from a melee Newth put the ball into the net. A combined dash saw Waihi attacking strongly, until Charlton cleared. Receiving a pass on the wing Hall/then took the ball and with- a neat shot completely beat Dunstan, the Waihi goalkeeper. A short run from the bully and the ball was again at Waihi's goal mouth, - where Menzies sent in a hot shot, .which got past Dunstan. A strong dash by the Waihi forward line carried play well into Rovers' circle, where Burgers was much in evidence. A neat pass was cleverly intercepted by him and -he wasted no time but put the ball well into the net. Both teams were now feeling the strain of a strenuous game, and centre play was the order, until Judd { got away on the wing. A long pass was well taken by Menzies, and from a melee in the Waihi .circle the ball was placed into the net. The whistle -" was shortly' afterwards blown.
