STRANGE CASE.
A MAN REMANDED.

AUCKLAND, August 3.
The police were called to a residence at Onehunga, owing to a threat to commit suicide being made by Edward George Metcalfe, a seaman. They found the door locked, and burst it open, and knocked a knife out of Metcalfe's hand as it was descending on his heart.
Metcalfe had written a letter staling his intention to commit suicide, owing to.his being out of work, and to the theft of a small sum of money. He was brought before the Count, and remanded for medical observation and treatment.
