August 2.
An -inquiry into thef sinking ot the British steamer Spathari, off the Portuguest coast on April 19, found that the chief engineer. Thomas Malley; willully scuttled the ship ' by opening the sea communications wu. the engine-room.
Malley's certificate was cancelled. The master did not try to ascertain the cause'of the-leak, andjais.certificate was suspended ,-*>for -three months.
There was no proof that the owner was inculpated..
