The firemen turned the hoses on ■ the crowd, who twice broke the milita.ry cordon. Many heads were broken in baton charges. ' \ Another riotous crowd shouted: "Dow,!! with the Government!" The riots continued during the night. The demonstrators then attempted' to barricade the streets, but the mounted men charged them, and a. great'number were wounded, including Cachin, a, member oi the Chamber of Deputies, amd editor of a. Socialist paper. Shots fired by the mob wounded three policemen.
