\\ ELUiNiiTOxN*, July l A letter Iruni the chairman of tne Jvutional; hfliciency Jboard ,to tlie lecdnu<;ai bcuooi jtfoaard last. i;i<>iit stated that a 1 suggestion had been made tibat school noiidays be shortened.in Spring 1 and Autumn, and correspondingly lengthened a,t inid-summe-r,m order to-, enable senioipupils to undei-take woa4 in tiie country at the sheiai-ing and harvesting seasons.
Letters stated that it had, been ascertained! tlhat the employment of senior guils was, not approved by the unstresses, and the suggestion relating to their employment in thtcountry had therefore been dropped. Inquiries had shown that /there was no need to alter* the dates of "the University and other examinations, or interfere with holiday arrangements. As in the cas© of oidor pupils they had , .already extended the midsummer holidays, while those in the primary schools were ihalary of the >ag!e to: be of any use in the country.
In. the case of country, schools the fl boys there were always well engaged [in useful worb.
Replies to circulars issued by the Efficiency Board (having shown that the scheme of utilising school boy labour was favourable, it only remained- to make the necessary arrangements. Iti was deoidied to supply information to the Efficiency" Board as to the numbers ol boys under its control who weir© suitable for 'country work. —Press Association.
