HINTS TO THAMES--GROWERS.

Interesting to Thames orchardists and especially apple growers—and we have some splendid apple orchards m the distriotr—to learn what a traveller who recently journeyed in the lonic from Wellington in> England has to say of the opportunities which South America offers to the applegrowers in New Zealand. ''Thera id an unlimited manket, apparently, in Buenos Ayres, Monte Video, and at Rio do Janeiro for apples from New Zealand," he says. "At Monte- Video we we asked one shilling and i'ourpenee for six apples of very poor quality. At Buenos Ayres, I sun lold, they are often Is each, while at ,Bio potatoes sell at £30 per ton, and apples often fetch 25s per <'ase wholesale! It would well pay .New Zealand apple growers to have an agent of their own nationality in all these towns.

"To give an instance. On the lonic we had a consignment of .some -5000 cases of Hobart apples. These had been transhipped at Wellington from the Athenic, and fetched 7s 6d per ease f.o.b. Monte Video. The agent adds .some 5s per case on as has profit, and puts them up with 12s 6d per case reserve. Tha grower might as well share in this.
