WORDS OF WISDOM

TO MY FEOK.*.

When a demand arises for a*. *.x----'cle, and if the supply should not „,•» uite equal to the demand, it creates scarcity, consequently higher prices. English 'ideas and customs have been introduced into the Orient, and are spreading r&pidiy; this, along with the world's increasing population, haa cause- an extra demand for uij. kinds of .food, etc., and as the producing area has sot increased correspondingly, it at once reflects on the producing countries, and raise* prices. Great Britain is the only free, trade country of any importance in the world. In Great Britain, only a few days ago, a Cominieaiou w;ia apointed to inquire into the reasons why the cost of living liad increased. It haa been officially, efcated, while the cost of living increased 50 per cent during the last 25 years, wagss had only increased 15 psr cent for the same period, so it is obvious taxing the land -will not reduce tne oo3t of living, nor increase the workers' ages, and the only remedy for Great ritaini is Protection.

The Orient has, and is erecting, uge industries equipped with modern machinery -worker, and to io with Asiatic labour. The question suggests itself to my people—how can any English-speaking country cope with this menace unless amply protected to save ov~ ndustriea and wage-eariers from being broughtdown to vhe Asiatic level.

The Single Tax theory is absolutely one tax on tho land and free rade. It is apparen. it would not lessen the coat of production, but reduce -wages to cope with Asiatic labour, augmented with modern machinery. There is still hope as I am credibly informeu the success of the Single Tax policy will depend upon the world adopting it; this ought to enBure safety for a time.

During my varied experience 1 found that quack recipes were harmful to those with imaginary ailments, but they have the option of becoming well and remaining here if they will follow my advice. I strongly adviss my people, and +**<j imaginary suf ferers, to feast upoii the well known recipes, prosperity, and longevity, etc., viz.: — Ample protection on things we can produce, and good wages —"CHAMPION MiUSCmRAISER FLOUR" and "STANDARD" OATMEiAL aud ROLLED OATS. I remain, Always at your service, CHAMPION.

P.3.—Follow Canada's example, and inject the Single Tax and Free Trade
