Weather forecast: The indications are for southerly winds, moderate to strong, and veering! by south to east; tho weather will probably bo squally with heaTiy showers at times; the night will probably be very cold with frosts inland; barometer unsteady, but it has a rising tendency; seas moderate, tides moderate.

A London cable says the Duchess of 'Clonnaught passed a fair night.

It is stated that the damage done to the boiler of the Wakatere is more serious than was at first anticipated and will necessitate the vessel laying up for several weeks. Exactly how the accident occurred and what was the primary cause of same, have not been disclosed, but from the quantity of steam that is said to have been' suddenly liberated the "blow out" must have been a substantial one. The Waiotahi i-nd,. Daphne were put on thi- running for to-day, to cope with the large number of passengers expected to travel, while the Waiotahi will probably take up the ferry service between Thames and Auckland until the Wakatere resumes run-

I The much looked forward to euchre and dance ■arranged by members of St. Francis' Church in aid of funds for same, will eventuate tomorrow evening in St. George's Hall, Pollen St. .and should attract a big number of devotees of the great card game and followers of terpischorean art. The first part of the evening will be, devoted to cards for which handsome prizes will be given, and a jolly dance will follow . Admission for euchre and. dance has been fixed for 2s. and for dance only Is. Good music will be provided, and the floor i being in perfect order and the secretarial arrangements being in the •capable hands- of Misses vT.brbett and Mt-llctt, a delightful evening should result;
