NATIVE LAND LAWS.
'KEYSTONE OF THE POLICY."

Tti3 need for amendment in native land laws was brought under notice of the Minister for Native Affairs (the Hon. W. H. Herries) by Mr j. M. Killen, at Whangarei to>.day. They are worthless to Europeans and dangerous and degrading to natives, said Mr Killen, who emphasised particularly the great delay experienced in obtaining necessary titles owing to the frequent adjournments of the Land Court.
Mr Herries ,in reply, stated that the question of native lands was a, very Important one indeed to the district, and he would bo very pleased to receive any private suggestions in the direction of improving its administration.
'•My endeavour,*' concluded Mr Herries, " will aways be to try and lacilitate exchange between Maori and pakeha, providing the native gets a fair remuneration and does not divest himself of all his land. That is the keystone of my policy.'*
