GIRL AS FTEE KAISER.

Justice Chapman found some difficulty to-day in. dealing with a 1 16 year old girl, Ivy Myrtle Stirong, ■who recently pleaded guilty to a charge of setting fire to the Presbyterian Girls' Orphanage at Karori. ' The Crownl Prosecutor . stated the. girl had propensity for seating places on fire. He'suggested the girl be sent to the Teoranga Honale, but the trouble was thatl it- did nob provide for the reception of girls over 16 by simple coiimmittal by a> judge. An order of the Governor was required in! oases over 16 and tinder 19 for detentioni in a reformative institution. The only course was to impose » sentence and leave it to the Governor to act in the direction suggested. The Judge agreed and he sentenced the pirl to three months' imprisonimen* and recommended the Manila" of Ju/stice to bring the ease under the notice of the Governor. His Honor added it would1 be advisable to have the Act amended.
