Jackson) was received and adopted as under: "I beg to report on the- work of the past fortnight as follows : The work of laying' down a concrete crossing at the junction of Pollen an 1 Cbchrane streets, which has beiein i;> hand for sorao tiniie is now completed. The cost of this work was £1?., as against. £36 had a wooden block crossing; been laid down, and I am of thel opinion it will 'be found-nun-? durable. The wooden kerbing opposite Bone's store, Tararu Road, beinp: in a very bud state of decay, it necessitated 33ft of this work being renewed. Very good progress has beien made with the construction of thts new concrete water table, along the western- side of Uppeir Pollen: St, between Williamson and Abrahaui streets. The bottom and the wall of the table are. completed for the full length, and two men are now. engaged with the topping. I expect to have this work completed by the end of 'the pi-esent. week. In accordance with your instructions, the lamp post nenv the Shortland Railway Station., which was recently damaged by a horse and vehicle colliding with it, has been placed at the corner of Willoughby and Queen streets, on the northern sicte of the former street.. The wort of metalling the various streets in the Borough was commenced on the 4Jth in st. Bella and Pahau streets art finished, and Queen street is; now being attended to. These roads are sub jeofe to heavy wheeled traffic in connection with the carting of mullocls from the deep level, five drays being constantly employed. In view of th* contracts for delivery of saw dust and collection of dust, expiring, at the end of the month, I feel it is my duty t-o report that the contractor.
