A SPLENDID SUCCESS.
We have to-day received many and j hearty congratulations from those | who were present at the living pic-' ture display given outside the Sta? office last night. The programme shown included numerous living and still pictures interspersed with the results of the dominion elections, and for fully four hours a large and enthusiastic, crowd was kept interested and .amused. The projection was all that oould be desired and spoke much for those responsible for the. working of the machine. The greatest, paru of the credit is undoubtedly due to the popular picture proprietor, Mer 0. 'Roberts, and his two operators, who had gone to much trouble and spent, much time in arrangements for making the display the huge sucoeasi it was. The machine used was a new "Gaumont," which is, as assuredly known, the best procurable. The ilarse crowd present gave vent to their pleasure or disappointment at the results screened in a most dcI monstrative. manner, but soon had their pleasure increased, or their disappointment swept aside by laughable comic films which they received with wild cheering. Visitors ware heard to remark that they didn't know that Thames was so up-to-date. Well, the display last night was worthy of any in a city so promptly I were the results screened and so diversified was the programme in connection with the entertainment as it must be called. The congratulations we have received to-day both verbally and in writing amply demonstrate that the efforts of tKe Star and of iM!r Roberts and his operators were appreciated to the fullest extent, meeting with ..the approbation which was undoubtedly deserved.
