At last night's meeting of the Thames Borough Council the following letter fromi Messrs Read, Gillei*pie and Co. wa» read. It was in connection 'with nu request from the Council that the firm should not proceed with charging increased rates for killing, ancT~ that the former charges foa reverted to. The firm's letter stated :—■

"In reply to youir letter of yesterday, this firml has decided that they cannot miaik© any aibaitemieinrt of the incfreaised charges for slaughtering. We are prepared to lease the abattoirs as a' going concern to : your Council for 12' months for £150, or for 10 years if you bo desire at £100 per annuimi. We beg to point out tha* the rental required of your Council for 12 months is the same that your Council propose to piaty in interest on the new abattoir loan,"

Tn connection therewith the Town Clerk supplied the following memo.:

"In reference to the concluding paragraph in tfie letter of Messrs Read, Gillespie and Xh., viz.: "Thjt the interest payaiblie by the Council, for the abattoir loan is the same as the firm, offer to let. their premises at, £150 per annum;, T beg to «taite that the interest and sinking fund on th -• loan will be £195 per annum: for 26 years.
