THE WAITANGI MINE.

AN IMPORTANT DEVELOPMENT. Developments of an important nature have taken place in the Waitangi mine, and the fact that gold; is I reported from the main *reef at the low level has had the effect of harden-j . ingi the shares • considerably. Mi., Barclay, of Auckland (one of Ihe! directors), who has a large interest 1 in the mine yesterday paid a visit ib j the property, and expressedi himself : as being: particularly well pleased. On the hangingwall of the main reef, about four feetl wide, the ore looks j I splendid, and it was here that the I gold bearing stone waa secured. The| I breaking down has resulted in some i I good payable ore coming to hand, I and the latest development must be ( considered as highly satisfactory and I decidedly reassuring. The drive' westjward on the Siam reef, at this levd, I has been again resumed, and the reef jis feteing stripped preparatory to peaking down. A change for the better has taken place in, the cotihtry in this'drive during! the last few feet, it being now more favourable for gold:, and this may have a beneficial effect on the reef as the Fork advances. The last two cross leaders cut in this drive showed nice dalbs of gold and several other leaders, which , were intersected) in the main crossj cut!, should cross the drive a little i further: westward. .- *
