TO-DAY'S 1 MEETING

The ordinary monthly meeting of the Thames County Council was held this morning. There were present the Chairman. (Mir T. Al Dumlop) and Councillors T. Kilgour, .!• Steadman, G- Clarke, Bagnall. M. Paul, H. HAdams and C'orbett.

Mr Hollis, County Clerk, and Mr J- McLaren (County Engineer) were also ra attendance. —Minutes*. —> The minutes of the last. Board of Works* meeting, Finance and ordinaiy meeting were read and confirmed and the' correspondence read aad proved—Tenders.— The following tenders were deialt with: Upper Tararu Creek Road: JasRiokiti, £102 10s; Tlios. Donnelly, £99 17s 6d; E. Lowe, £94 16s cepted)Upper* lAuiding; itta Nenve'svillla: Thos. D'ufty, £11 is (accepted)—The Kuranui Battery.— Mr T. Crawford wrote asking the : Council the terms on which it would lay. on and supply water for twenty head, as the Kuranui Co- are about to have their battery put. in repair in order to start crushing-

The Chairman moved and Cr. Adams seconded that the matter be referred to the Engineer to report as to estimates.

—Request for Tramway.—

R- P- Gibbons and Sons, Kopu, wrote requesting permissic>n. to lay a light tramline across the Kopu main road) near the wharf, running from their mill yard to am open paddock aeroes the road-, Tliey promised if their request was granted to lay the tramline in suoh manner as ia no way to interfere with the traffici on the road;, and sustain it in such order.

Re the .above, the County Engineer wrote stating that if the tramway was properly laid down with guards and kept, in good repair :by Mr Gibbons, it would nob interfere with roadi traffic Mr Gibbons' intention is to stack sawn timber for shipment on two allotments on the opposite side of the road! from the mill; th© arrival oif vessels ibeing nary in-egular, necessitates this, tbut there should be noi sawdust or anything deposited on these, allotment si that ■will mako its way to the river •

It was resolved on the motion' of Cr. Clark, seconded .by iCr Corbet** that the request be granted.

—Water for Public Baths—

Mr Ai. Bruce, Town Clerk, wrote as follows: "I beg to acknowledge fceciedpti (pff yourl lefytieft stating) that) your Council declined to supply water [ free of uharge to the- proposed public ■ baths. In reply I an* instructed!'by the Council tol request that you will Jiiiguiji lay the Gouncfiirs letter of August 26th last before your Council and get the Council's decision to the questions contained therein, viz-, (1) Will your Conned I supply the Borough, with, water for the baths, and (2) on whati terms will your Council supply the necessary water. The Council merely suggested, on the jglrtwroid istatod in "their letter, that} your Council merely did not see its j way clear to grant the water free from charge.
