The Public School Teachers' Salaries Act Amendment Bill was introduced by Governor's: message in the House of Representatives- The Bill proposes to repeal parts-1 and. 2 of the .first s-ohcdule of the Aict of 1901- In the new schedule a new basis of attendance and scale of salaries is submittedl, namely : Schools not over ten, capitation £6, male or female teacher ; schools of from ten to twemy fixed salary of £60, capitation £5, male or female; twenty to tweiuty- ' five, £110 and £±, male or female; twenty-five to foi'ty, £130 and £2 male teacher, £130' and £1 female ■-teacher; forty to. fifty, £160 and 10s nuale teacher; female teacher scale unaltered. In the fifth, sixth-, and seventh grades no- alteration is ma.de. 1 From- the eighth grade (120 to 150 pupils) to' the last, grade 1020 to lOoO^upils) an increase of £20 per annumV'is provided for all male assistants after the first- Provision is 1 made in the new schedule fo.r a house ' allowance of £10 to teachers of Hichools with an average attendanco of over 10 and not. over 1 20- In regard te sohoiolss of over 10 (the present .schedule names 20) discretion is either 1 provide residence or pay house allowance. Plqpjil teacher's' salaries remain as at present, but an exception is made in regard to fifth year pupil teachers', who. are to receive £50 instead of £40. Another alteration ist that a male 1 assistant at £100 or a female at £80 may bo substituted for two- pupil teachers, instead of a male or female at £80, as formerly- In the .supplementary scale for 1 separatei boys', girls.' and infants' -schools! w^thi attendances of from j 201 to -600, the only alterations are jin the salaries -of assistants in . the j boys' schoolsi- In the last four grades of these schools' increasesl of £5 are /pi'o-videdi foT firsti assistants. The salaries) of second assistants in the ; last six grades are to- be reduced as follolws:—£s, £o--, £.10, £10, £15, '£15 and £20 respectively- The '. salaries! of fourth assistants in the last severn grades are to be iiu'rensed :by £10, £10, £15, £15, £20, £20 j and £25 respectively- The salaries -of fifth assistants in the lust six '■ grades are to -be increased by £'20, £20, £20, £20, £15 and £15 respectively.
