The Mayor of Dunedin (Mr J. A. Park), in conversation with his Excellency the Governor, mentioned that - it was proposed to form,-a. Shipwrecked' Mariners' Relief Society for New Zealand, and' asked if his Excellency, would consent to become patron of the society if formed. His Excellency - remarked that lie .hadi intended to move in] the matter 'himself, and -was surprised that a Relief Society in New Zealand had not been instituted 10 years ago. He not only consented to become patron, but said he would take a deep personal interest in. the movement, and was sure that it would be heartily supported.
