Public School Sports

TO-DAY'S COMPETITIONS. To-day at the Waio KarakaSchooil the remainder of the isports pro gramma of the Publics Schools demonsti'atiotni was carried out. This con: sisted of skipping (far girls) and long jumping (for the boys). Regarding the first mentioned we are astonished that such a. oompetitioni should have been included in the programme —the injury done toi a child might be inseparables-arid we. are pleased to learn that there .is little probability of similar exhibitions being held. Fancy and figure skipping might well be included, but to offer inducement £or a trying, exhausting, and dangerous trial of endurance is, under the circumstances, most reprehensible. Kate Graham (Waiio Earana) skipped 972 times and won the competition for girls under 12 years. Nellie Barrett, of Tararu with 1572 skips, won the competition, for girls under 15 years. William Moyle, of the WaioKaraka School, won"the jumping under 15 years. The results are appended:— SKIPPING (Under 12.) Kate Graham.
