Presentation to Mr Hammond.

At the general meeting of footballers held on Wednesday evening, the Chairman, of the Rugby Union (Mr T. Aitken) took the opportunity of presending the Secretary (Mr W. Hammond) 1 with a very handsome travelling case with suitably engraved sil ver plate, as a token of the esteem and respect in which he is held by fottballers generally, and as a slight acknowledgment of the valuable services rendered by him, -a® Seoretaiy of the Union, for some yeairs past. In making the presentation' Mi* Aitken referred to the able andi sati-faotory manner in which Mr Ha.mmond had always perfonn,ed hisjcluties as secretary of the Union, and stated that the success attained was largely attributable to.bis.exertions. In conclusions lie; assured Mir Hammond that he possessed the confidence of all connected with the Union, and on their behalf conveyeS to him, their best wishes for his future welfare. The Chairmaiir'si remarks were fully endorsed by fhe other members of the management, committee present (Messrs Melntyre, L'oyd and Towers).

Mr Hamomnd (to whoni the presentation' was a great surprise) thanked the. donoHs for their handsome present and stated that what he had done for the good ol football had been, a "labour of love," and had nOfe been done with, any hope of reward. He felt very deeply the kindly expressions of confidence from footballers generally, and' especially from his colleagues on the Union Committee, with whom he had always worked so amicably. He would always treasure their handsome present as a pleasing memen'fo; of his connection with the Thames Rugby Union.
