CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night,
After lunch at Tekoraha on Satur-, day the Royal party went for a walk:! near the Avon", and later witnessed a f display of wire jumping at Tekoraha" j over fences, three feet high, with five I strands of black, wire. Several .officers of the Amuri Mounted Rifles • and Colonel Penton took part. Sergt.! Tubman, of the Canterbury Mounted Rifles, gave a display of horseman-' ship at which his Highness was much pleased. — | A RECEPTION. • j In the evening the Mayor held a brilliant and crowded reception in the Agricultural Hall. The Royal party, who'were Expected ajt 9.45, arrived at 10.35, and occupied a seat on a raised dais. Tjiey listened to a short concert p*ogramm£,! the .performers being Mrs Bunu£' Miss Graham, .Messrs Wallace,, H. Reeves, and a. Millar. Afterwards their Highnesßes moved' through the crowds, to 1 the private rooms. Here suptierwas,' provided for the guests. The) Duch- j ess wore a diamond tiara round her neck, while her corkage blazed with diamond*. • ," A BRILLIANT SPECTACLE. On Saturday afternoon there was a rehearsal of the" review,"at the 'Park. There was' an extraordinary large attendance of the public. The troops are still arriving in the camps. Slight rain fell- On Saturday night the city was illuminated. The spire of the Cathedral waa a splendid spefctacle, the cross being illuminated b"y electric light. There was no fireworks. Sunday was delightfully fine. The Duke, Duchess, and suite attended morning service at the Cathedral, where a short service was held. Bishop Julius' termon lasted but 12 minutes. Thei front portion of the Cathedral was cleared for their Highnesses,' who' occupied special seats. The Rev. A. E. Julius and Canon Harper assisted. A special service for the at the Cathedral was poorly attended.' . '
