The local market has shown an improvement during the week, and several sales have taken place. Of these the line most in demand was Komata Reefs and exchanges were made at 2s 4d. They weakened after the receipt of n«ws of the dispute at the mine, but subsequently firmed, and they are now at tjpir usual figure. Broken' Hills (Waiomo) were in good demand and saw business at 3£d. There are further buyers at the same figure, but sellers will not part at this price. There were Bales rf Waihi Extended* at 4s 3d, with this line easing towards the close of the market. Waihi Consolidateds wers exchanged at Is Bd, and there are now buyers at Is 7d and sellers at Is Bd. Another line in-good demand were May Queen Hauraki at 3d, and other scrip at late quotations.

HAURAKI MINES; (Coromandel). Operations in the Hauraki Mines property were commenced on May 20, and in accordance ■with, instructions received, the manager, Mr G. W. Horn, started to drive the intermediate between Nos. 2 and 3 levels, with, four men working two shifts., The level was driven a distance, of 54ft from the winze previously, and ' has been extended 16ft; making,the total distance from the winze 70ft, which is. half way to.tfie Royal Oak boundary.
