IMPRISONMENT FOR DEBT.
The first «uso beard in Auckland under The Imprisonment for for Debt Limitation Act, 1900, vraa hoard to-day when v creditor was* refused aii order on v judgment summons. Tha order was refused on the ground that the debt -was, incurred since the Act came into force. Under the new Act imprison ment for debt is only ordered when fraud is alleged and proved or when there is evidence that the defendant ha« means und refuses to pay.
