Pound Dead in Bed.
An old resident of the Waiotahi Creek; named John Johnston, was found dead in bed by his sister, Misa Jane Johnston, who resided with him, at 7 o'clock this morning. The sad occurrence was reported to the police by Mr Vedder, and Constable Steevens proceeded to the house immediately. He ascertained that the deceased had an attack of paralysis about twelve months ago, and had been attended by Dr Bond. Dr Callan was sent for this morning, but on his arrival found that nothing remained for him to do but pronounce life extinct. The appearance of the body was quite peaceful and no doubt death occurred during sleep. The medical gentlemen who atended the deceased, are not in a position to give a certificate as to the cause of death and the matter is to be reported to the Coroner. Aa both the Coroner (Mr Bruce) and Deputy Coroner (Mr Renshaw) are absent, it will not be known whether an inquest will be held until to-morrow.
