WELLINGTON, April 20. The Government Sanitary Commissioners in Auckland have been requested to examine some dead rats found at Howick to ascertain whether there are traces of plague. The Government of Tasmania has wired to the Colonial Secretary asking for the removal of quarantine restrictions against Tasmanian ports. No decision has yet been arrived at. The Government is. drafting a form of bond which passengers from infected -ports will be asked to sign declaring their willingness to! report themselves periodically for five daysl at the expiration of quarantine. Those refusing will be kept in quarantine for five days. No cargo from infected ports is to be discharged on the wharves until fumigated in the lighters. Local fanciers are agitating against the edict of the City Council that fowls cannot be kept within the city boundary. The Council will hear a deputation from the former at next meeting.
