Christmas Tree and Dane

TAIEUA, April 17.
The Upper Landing school children were treated to a Christmas Tree .on Thursday afternoon, 12th inst. The school, which was utilised for the occasion, was artistically decorated with ferns and evergreens, which completely hid' the walls. The Christmas tree, literally covered . with ? choice selection of toys, stood in the centre, the whole presenting a picture that at once pleased the* eye? of both young and old alike. The distribution of the numerous prizes by the ladies of .the committee caused no end of excitement amongst theyoungsters:, who clearly showed their appreciation of their newly acquired treasures. During the afternoon light refreshments were dispensed, and it is needless to say that ai very plear sant time was spent, until the gathering dusk dispersed the happy assembly. In the evening a dance was held, when the adults tripped the light fantastic with unabated spirit until 11.30: Thanks are due for the successes of the undertaking to Mesdames Jos. Duftyy G. Morrison, W. Spittle, Missi Ellen Morrison and Messrs F. Mullins, Jos. Dufty, W. Spittle, T. Dufty, and J. Livesey (secretary), to which may also be added thanks to the general public for their generous support.
