THE MINISTER OF MINES. (Per Press Association.) DTJNEDIN, April 19. The Minister of Mines visited Kai tangata yesterday, and was cordiall; welcomed by the miners, having, beei officially welcomed by the Mayor ii the name of the inhabitants of th> district; Mr. McGowan . said that with his previous knowledge, anr fortified with, additional information he would gain by his present tour: he would be able to defend the mm ing industry when it was attacked ii the House. He wished to stee capi talists receiving a fair return for thmoney they had invested, but it waequally important that the ' miner should receive remunerative paymet for their labor. This was one of th< principal tenets of liberalism. Th Minister visited Gore, Waikaka am Waikaia to-day.
